Only for the fearless
The Kölnbrein Dam is a concrete arch dam in the Hohe Tauern mountain range. It was constructed between 1971 and 1979 and at 200 metres, it is the tallest dam in Austria. Due to its placement in stunning nature, the dam is a popular filming location for automotive commercials and even served as a backdrop for the 1978 film The Boys From Brazil. Thanks to a horseshoe-shaped bridge, called the “skywalk”, adrenaline seekers can test their courage and take a plunge from around 165 meters into the depths. Everyone who still has enough energy afterwards can catch their breath during a dam tour or learn more about the background of electricity generation and the VERBUND power plants. But do check your calendar, as the Bungee Jumping Weekend at the Kölnbrein dam only takes place once a year.
