Hiking 43 stages all the way to the Adriatic Sea
The Alpe-Adria-Trail connects the three regions of Carinthia, Slovenia and Friuli-Venezia Giulia over a total of 43 stages and 750km. This long-distance hiking trail leads from the foot of the Grossglockner, the highest mountain in Austria, through the most beautiful mountain and lake regions of Carinthia.
The final destination is Muggia, an idyllic harbour town to the south of the old Austro-Hungarian empire town of Trieste. Breathtaking panoramas open up at every step of a route that is rich in contrasts, cross-border interest and genuinely inspiring landscapes and cultures. The stages are around 20km long and are consistently signposted, with each one taking about 6 hours to walk. Every stage leads along a defined route that can be followed in either direction, so people can decide for themselves how far they want to go and which way.
